Indian Railways ready to roll out 5500 horse power diesel locomotive 'Bheem'(comes with a provision of toilet for crew).

Indian Railways will manufacture a newly-designed 5500 horse power (HP) diesel locomotive equipped with all modern features consisting 100 km per hour running speed. This will be helpful in hauling heavier trains.
It has been named as – Bheem. Presently, the high horse power locomotive is undergoing safety trial. It has been produced at Diesel Locomotive Works at Varanasi. The Railways had to spend almost Rs 17 crore for the prototype.
Railways have got 4500 HP diesel locos for freight operation and after the induction of Bheem, the carrying capacity will rise considerably. Indian Railways has decided to produce 15 such locomotives in the present financial year.
Railways have fixed a loading target of 1025 million tonnes for 2012-13, which is 55 million tonnes more than the previous financial year. Bheem has been designed jointly by the Railways and EMD, a US-based company. This locomotive comes with a provision of toilet for crew. It also got a huge fuel capacity of 7500 litres to offer long runs without refuelling.
